The band Unwed Sailor from Tulsa, Oklahoma, has really taken off in recent years.
After a quiet period for much of the 2010s, they’ve re-emerged with the aptly titled „Heavy Age” (2019) and two more albums, „Truth Or Consequences” (2021) and „Mute The Charm” (2023), which represent a remarkable evolution of their bass-driven, pop-heavy post-rock.
On Underwater Over There – their ninth LP in total – a current of 80s goth and jangle-pop flows beneath a multitude of catchy hooks and compositional left turns that create a driving and complex soundscape.
The band have worked together on all elements of mix and production to create a carefully layered environment, while maintaining an air of spontaneity and experimentation. Early highlight „Final Feather” drifts through various landscapes of airiness and haze on a breakneck bass hook, while the hum of voices adds a contrast of angelic comfort.
