Monica Richards has achieved her 3rd full length album, which has been announced as her most personal album to date. This talented artist always has had a union with nature and Mother Earth. This is an element that comes already back on „Kindred”. All the songs on this album feature animal- and/or natural sounds Monica recorded in her backyard. She s living next to a large bat colony in Austin (Texas) so you ll maybe recognize the noise of bats, and frogs, birds, cicadas, and tortoise taps. Next to some guest musicians contributing to the new work, Monica s cat Penelope can be heard on one of the songs as well. The sweet Penelope was running across the keys, which has been recorded by Monica Richards.
Among the natural sounds you maybe will recognize thunder and rain. You can hear that this great artist really took some pleasure making this album, which appears to be an ode for all the kindred spirits in her life. That maybe also a reason why Kindred sounds so diversified in sound. The usual sense of mystery and reverie remains intact. Some tribal influences can be heard as well. But Monica Richards also gets back to more new-wave inspired songs, getting her closer to Faith And The Muse, but also to Siouxsie & The Banshees. I ll here mention the song Fall . Other songs are accentuating the deeply artistic and polished taste of Richards.
„Let You Go” sounds irresistible and that refined through the play of violas. Kindred clearly sounds like an invitation to join a world of reverie and prosperity, but often spiced with a mystic flavor like featured on „The Enchanted Mirror” . Last, but not least, the magic of Monica Richards is always present because of her emblematic vocal performance. And here again you can perceive the pleasure she had recording and singing. The voice sometimes sounds like a extra instrument embellishing the songs, revealing a warm and sensual intonation. The song „Speak” is a quite noticeable cut, which makes me think to the emblematic Lana Del Rey. Conclusion: A deeply sensitive and poignant release by one of the greatest genius artists in the ethereal music universe. — Side-Line Magazine.
