Limited Edition Tangerine color Vinyl LP. with gatefold jacket and lyric insert sheet. „Across The Milky Way” is the fourth solo album by Dallas singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Christopher Holt, (Eagles, Don Henley, Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs) and his first solo effort since 2016’s double album Stargazer. Recorded at Holt’s home studio during a touring break in the summer of ’24, Milky Way surges with a newfound sense of purpose, as Holt reclaims his artistic identity.
In songs like “Snap Out” and “That Magic Feeling,” Holt longs to rediscover that hibernating muse, while firmly clinging to his own stubborn ideals in the boldly defiant “I Can Only Be Myself.” Whether floating in a surreal dream in “Lost By The River,” lamenting a frustrating lost cause in “Satellite Alone,” or pondering his own path to sobriety in “A Moment Of Clarity,” Holt reels the listener in to his deeply-personal journey back from the abyss. And in the closing ray of hope “Don’t Give Up On Luck”, he recognizes the potential serendipities that wait around every corner.
Over the course of a dozen moods, densely layered with complex-yet-focused instrumentation, Holt weaves us through the story of his own middle-aged self-discovery, making peace with the past, and embracing the good fortune of the present. In a tradition he’s become accustomed to whenever tackling his own solo records, Holt plays every instrument on every song, while singing stacks of harmony with himself. But he still makes room for a couple guest appearances, by the legendary guitarist Mike Campbell (his Dirty Knobs bandmate) on a pair of songs, and by his own teenage son Peyton, whose trumpet blasts elevate the tongue-in-cheek stomper “I Need A Hearing Aid” to the album’s energetic peak.
