Travis Scott has established himself as one of the defining artists of his generation, evolving from a highly regarded producer and collaborator into a global superstar. Born Jacques Bermon Webster II, the Houston native first made his mark through associations with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music and T.I.’s Grand Hustle, before breaking through as a solo artist with his distinctive blend of psychedelic production, melodic vocals and hard hitting trap. His 2015 debut album ‘Rodeo’ helped establish the blueprint for his sound, while subsequent releases including ‘Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight’, ‘Astroworld’ and ‘Utopia’ have taken him to the very top of the charts. With the global success of singles such as ‘Antidote’, ‘Goosebumps’, ‘Sicko Mode’ and ‘Highest in the Room’, alongside collaborations with everyone from Drake and Kid Cudi to The Weeknd, Future and Young Thug, Travis has become one of the most influential figures in contemporary rap.
‘Midnight Confessions’ takes a trip into the deeper side of the Travis Scott catalogue, bringing together a collection of rare, underground and hard to find recordings that capture him during some of the most formative stages of his career. Across 16 tracks the release showcases Travis alongside an impressive line up of collaborators, including Quentin Miller, A$AP Ferg, Lil Duke, Paul Wall and Jeremih, while tracks such as ‘Quintana’, ‘Uptown’, ‘Another Check’, ‘MIA’ and ‘Palm Trees’ highlight the raw energy and experimentation that would go on to define his later work. There is a real sense of discovery throughout ‘Midnight Confessions’, moving between atmospheric late night cuts, melodic collaborations and harder street influenced material, giving listeners a glimpse into the vault of an artist who has never been afraid to push his sound.
