Hangos, sötét, swamp album!
The initial sonic explosion of spacey guitars of „Asphalt Jungle” make way to retro sounds – in the style of Link Wray – and Hammond organs both sensual and mournful, of „Bug Under Glass” and „Devastation Town”.
A fascination for dark Americana and Southern Gothic themes transpires from „Dust Devil” and „Little Animals”, with their desert landscapes.
Then again violent, hard-boiled fiction sets the stage for the black’n’roll of „Three Storey Girl”.
„Knuckles” instead pays tribute to the time that the band spent touring with Lydia Lunch and Gallon Drunk’s Big Sexy Noise.
The sky of Early Morning Scum brightens up with „Slow Motion”, a reverb drenched shoegaze jewel, and it turns grey again with the amphetaminic „Golden Spiral Kill”.
Eventually, the storm breaks out with the chaotic madness of „Half Seas Over”.
The album ends with the twisted gospel-like song „Jesus”, a long, intimate country song.
