When forms of music like rock and pop depend so much on repetition, it takes true wackos like Sun Club to inject warm rays of sunshine and joy to give it a real shock. Hailing from Baltimore, Sun Club feels like the predecessors of John Water’s Balltimore made of outsiders in suburbia. Their looney arrangements bounce and roll like a patient in a straitjacket as songs dissolve and melt with arrangements involving toy pianos, dated electronics, tight miked drumkits, and the jaunty guitars of West African highlife. This music contains rich harmonies, compelling melodies and rhythm. It also has a wonderful positivity that can help you feel good, even if the chips are down. Classic record, listened to it all throughout highschool. Bummer they arent around anymore.
