- DYNAMIC SDQ SHOW FROM THE SWEDISH CAPITAL IN 1983.
- Formed in San Antonio, TX, in 1964, the Sir Douglas Quintet were the brainchild of Doug Sahm, a veteran of the professional music scene who first sang on radio at the age of five. Best known for their 1965 hit single ‘She’s About a Mover’, written by Sahm, the group were credited with incorporating Tex-Mex and Cajun styles into rock.
- SDQ relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid-1960s and absorbed features of the nascent San Francisco Sound, including the loud and lush electric bass tone and freer percussion and guitar stylings.
- In 1972, the group split up when Sahm contracted to produce a solo album. But Sahm and original member Augie Meyers continued to work together throughout the late 1970s, and re-joined with drummer Johnny Perez in 1980 for a reunion tour and album.
- In 1983, Sahm and Meyers signed with the Swedish Sonet label and made several extensive European tours, which revitalized their careers. The single ‘Meet Me in Stockholm’ from their „Midnight Sun” LP went platinum and was one of the biggest-selling records ever in Scandinavia. On 13th May ‘83 the reformed Quintet played at The Ritz in the Swedish capital, where they performed an extraordinary show that local fans went crazy for – and when the aforementioned hit single was played, the house was most definitely rocking.
- Previously unreleased, this dynamic gig is now available for the first time on this new CD, serving as both a delight for SDQ and Doug Sahm fans, and as a tribute to the now sadly passed musical maverick and pioneering Doug Sahm, who slipped of this mortal coil in November 1999, following the great man’s suffering of a terminal heart attack in a New Mexico motel room.
