Puscifer (Maynard James Keenan – Tool, A Perfect Circle). Puscifer are back, and they’re dragging you into the shadows with Donkey Punch The Night — an EP that’s as seductive as it is sinister. Maynard James Keenan’s ever-evolving collective doesn’t so much release music as they do cast spells, and this one crackles with that unmistakable blend of dark sensuality, industrial grit, and sly, sideways humor that only Puscifer can pull off.
The title track is a slow-burning, groove-laden beast — all throbbing basslines and Keenan’s signature croon winding through the haze like smoke in a dive bar. It’s hypnotic, dangerous, and impossibly cool. But just when you think you’ve got them pegged, they flip the script. The EP’s centerpiece is a stunning, reimagined cover of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody — yes, you read that right. Puscifer don’t just cover a classic; they deconstruct it, rebuild it in their own image, and somehow make it feel like it was always meant to sound this way. It’s reverent and irreverent all at once, a tightrope walk that only a mind like Keenan’s could navigate.
The production is immaculate, as always — Carina Round’s ethereal vocals weave around Keenan’s with an almost telepathic intimacy, while Mat Mitchell’s guitar and programming work creates a soundscape that’s both expansive and claustrophobic. This is music for late nights, for dimly lit rooms, for moments when the line between pleasure and danger gets deliciously blurry. Puscifer continue to prove they’re one of the most fascinating, unpredictable forces in modern rock.
