Behind the band name Potato Beach hides a Viennese indie surf collective centred around mastermind Jannik Rieß. So far, they have released an EP on tape. Now they are releasing their debut album ‘Dip In’ on vinyl with Siluh Records! No money for a beach holiday again? No problem! With Potato Beach on your ears, even the cycle path along Vienna’s Danube Canal becomes a road trip on the Pacific and the ladies’ bike a light blue Chevy convertible. In the wake of old (The Kinks) and new (Foxygen) flagships of surf and garage rock, the project of Viennese-by-choice Jannik Rieß stirs up its own spray.
Simple but carefully arranged coral reefs sit as firmly in the leather seat as a Ray Ban on the nose. Live, Potato Beach has also brought talented matros on board such as Lilian Kaufmann (Zinn, among others), Peter Mathis (Peter The Human Boy), Anja Pöttinger (Atom Womb, among others) and Sven Limprecht. Potato Beach immerses even the most potato-fuelled day on Danube Island in Californian Polaroid blurs, despite warm cans of beer and sunburn.
