Roughly six months after the Mads Vinding Trio released their best selling album, „The Kingdom Where Nobody Dies” (Stunt, 1997), this set was recorded live on November 11th 1997at the Copenhagen Jazzhouse. The two Danes and one Italian took advantage of the setting and the audience’s enthusiasm for their expanded explorations of the structure and melody of six standards and one original. The average tune length is almost 10 minutes. They went inside, outside and played around the edges of the tunes. (Fats Waller would have been intrigued by the trio’s version of “Jitterbug Waltz.”) As is the case with most trios, the piano player dominates (and contributed the original), even if the session leader was a bass player. Unlike a lot of live club recordings, however, this one was remarkably well recorded. But the tapes still languished for 20 years until their release in 2017.
