Even the first announcements of an upcoming eleventh longplayer by Nocte Obducta caused a flurry of activity on every conceivable scene platform, as the Germans are a kind of pioneer of a scene movement and polarized their followers not least through their musical unpredictability and love of experimentation.
With –Mogontiacum (After the night has descended )– the long-awaited album is now available and should make many an -old- fan of the sextet sit up and take notice. Not only did the band recently announce that they would be incorporating more extreme metal sounds again, they have even gone so far as to describe -Mogontiacum- as a musical liberation after more than 10 years.
Conceptually, the album is based on material that was planned as the successor to the extremely successful -Nektar- phase, but was lost in the confusion of the band’s subsequent history. On this album, Nocte Obducta combine the old trademarks, to which the band owes its special position, with the joy of experimentation of recent years and deliver an album that clearly stands out from the mass of standard productions with its analog charm and knows how to inspire both old and new fans.
