In 1977 Patti went solo and released her first solo album, Patti LaBelle, on Epic Records. Tasty and It’s Alright With Me followed but many believed her fourth and final Epic album, RELEASED, was her finest on the label. RELEASED reunited Patti with New Orleans Soul maestro, Allen Toussaint.
RELEASED had a 22-week run of chart success and reached #21 on the US R&B charts. The album’s first single, RELEASE (THE TENSION) was a minor club and R&B hit in the USA but became a huge pop hit in both Belgium and The Netherlands. Second single, I DON’T GO SHOPPING returned Patti to the top 40 of the R&B charts at home, peaking at #26. Also included are R&B radio and fan favourites LOVE HAS FINALLY COME and DON’T MAKE YOUR ANGEL CRY.
