Wilhelm Kempff – Piano :
Wilhelm Walter Friedrich Kempff (25 November 1895 – 23 May 1991) was a German pianist and composer. Kempff was particularly well known for his interpretations of the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. He recorded the complete collection of the piano sonatas. He is considered to have been one of the chief exponents of the Germanic tradition
during the 20th century and one of the greatest pianists of all time. Kempff’s qualities were even more intensely in this mono set, recorded between
1951 and 1956. Amazingly the sound has more body and warmth than the stereo, with Kempff’s unmatched transparency and clarity of articulation even more vividly caught, both in sparkling Allegros and in deeply dedicated slow movements.
