1983 saw a move to a burgeoning new CBS Associated label, Private-I Records, with the single „Bet’cha Gonna Need My Lovin” which flew into the top forty of Billboard’s R&B chart.
La Toya continued to work on her third LP through the beginning of 1984, enlisting help again from her famous brothers, as well as Kool & The Gang, Kay-Gees guitarist Amir Bayyan, Musical Youth and Shalamar’s Howard Hewett.
The „Heart Don’t Lie” album saw La Toya’s star rise even higher, with a handful of successful singles like „Hot Potato”, the Prince-penned „Private Joy” and the title track, which charted at number fifty-four on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles chart.
