IBRAHIM ELECTRIC has within the last couple of years gained an enormous amount of popularity among, not only jazz-enthusiasts, but also people with no pre-knowledge about jazz music. These 3 personal instrumentalists have, besides the popularity of this group, made a name for themselves as some of the most striking on their respective instruments in Scandinavia. The Danish trio IBRAHIM ELECTRIC never disappoints.
Their quirky, provocative, extroverted, original music sticks its fingers into just about every musical cookie jar, and sends cascades of pearls from the speakers. IBRAHIM ELECTRIC’s style is not for the pedantic. There are elements of old fashioned soul/jazz, 1960’s acid-power-beat – and of course the trio’s trademark: the fast, almost-punk passages, in which the three musicians merge into one playful organism.
Coming from three different worlds of music, the mixture of these 3 personal instrumentalists has resulted in a “melting pot of inspiration” where no style is forbidden. Guitarist Niclas Knudsen has been working mostly within modern jazz, but is also clearly inspired by the roots of Afro-Cuban music and The Blues – Hammond B3 Organist Jeppe Tuxen has been working a lot within the tradition of soul, rock and traditional Hammond-funk from the 1960’s – drummer Stefan Pasborg has been working especially with experimental jazz music with world-class artists like Tomasz Stanko, Ray Anderson, Marc Ducret etc., but is also clearly inspired by New Orleans-oriented and African drumming.
Each of the band-members possesses an extremely high level of musical ENERGY (which leads back to some very specific references they have in common: Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane Quartet, Tony Williams’ Emergency etc.) – a mutual love for the pure energy in the music is what has made this unit extraordinary!
Whether Niclas is playing a guitar solo in the spirit of Ali Farka Toure, Jeppe is playing a solo that leads your mind to the Hammond-icons of the 1960’s, or Stefan is playing a drum-solo with avantgarde elements, the one thing that over shines it all, is the love for playing and performing, and the sheer intensity of their expression! This trio is a fantastic live experience, which has been delivered so far in England, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Thailand!
