„Silent, Listening” is an essential addition to ECM’s renowned series of solo piano recordings with one of the most outstanding improvising pianists of our time: Fred Hersch.
The album includes seven original compositions as well as a handful of standards, including Billy Strayhorn’s „Star-Crossed Lovers”, Sigmund Romberg’s „Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise”, Alec Wilder’s „Winter Of My Discontent” and Russ Freeman’s „The Wind”.
Hersch approaches the music throughout with the rare concentration, sensitivity and elegance for which the jazz doyen is known.
„Silent, Listening” was recorded in May 2023 with producer Manfred Eicher in the special acoustics of the „Auditorio Stelio Molo” of RSI (Radiotelevisione della Svizzera italiana) in Lugano.
