Indie Pop/Rock, 2024.
Hana Vu’s „contemplative indie pop captures the disillusionment of young adulthood”, writes the NME. Her new LP Romanticism underscores this feeling as a coming-of-age work that mourns the transience of youth and searches for meaning.
The LA-born songwriter has been making music since high school and has already released a debut album and several EPs of glowing, brooding anthems full of abstraction and emotion. With her previous work, Vu has consistently received feedback, but for the development of Romanticism, she shielded herself from the outside world to preserve her own vision. The result is a unified collection of songs bursting with depth and intimacy.
The lush and loud songs are reminiscent of both late eighties guitar-heavy indie rock and futuristic layers of synth bass. They pulse with meaning and shake with playfulness, carried by her powerful, sonorous voice and underscored by the record’s romance-inspired artwork. „I just try to convey my perspective as boldly as possible. To succinctly bring out what it feels like to be young, but also to be deeply sad.” Under Vu’s magnetic gaze, soaking up sadness has never felt so alive.
