This FM broadcast recording, transmitted from Hempstead, New Yorks Ultrasonic Studios in November 1973, just a week after the release of their sophomore album, finds the duo in relaxed but fine form across an 11 song set, six of which come from Abandoned Luncheonette, including of course Shes Gone – although few at the time realized what a defining and classic Hall & Oates number this composition would become.
The albums title tracks and the much loved Las Vegas Turnaround are however notable by their absence. But the irrepressible When The Morning Comes, the ultra-funky Every time I Look At You and other less well known cuts are featured rubbing shoulders with War Babies paean to the boys home city, Fall In Philadelphia and the classic Lilly (Are You Happy).
A rare treat is also included and indeed opens the show; Its Uncanny was not to grace a Hall & Oates album until the pair had left Atlantic, after releasing three albums, and when their former label released a compilation called No Goodbyes in 1977 and even then this little heard soul gem was hidden among the more familiar fare and has rarely gotten the credit it deserves.
