Gyasi does something unexpected with “Songs From The Holler” — he trades his signature high-voltage rock n’ roll for the humble sounds of home. Born and raised in the rugged hills of a West Virginia holler, Gyasi returns to his roots and the solitary mountains of his youth, celebrating the music he first encountered as a child by recording a vibrant folk-blues album. Nearly captured in the wild with just two microphones, the songs on “Songs From The Holler” feel authentic and heartfelt. The album blends familiar classics and forgotten gems with four original tracks, highlighting Gyasi’s tasteful guitar work and his genuine connection to this music. “Songs From The Holler” is an artful oddity whose sounds will carry you back to a world long past.
Fond of outlandish costumes and shoes, Gyasi (pronounced Jah-See) is a flamboyant artist who brings the golden age of UK rock n’ roll into the 21st Century. His music can be described as a glorious hybrid of early David Bowie and Marc Bolan.
Gyasi, who positions himself in the press and scene as a kind of glasnost between glam and art rock, deliberately weaves his Appalachian roots into the sound: rougher tonal colors meet melodic hooks and expressive vocals. His previous work, including the album „Here Comes The Good Part,” shows a penchant for opulent choruses, surgical guitar work, and a stage full of theatrical gesture—elements that remain clearly audible on this LP as well. On earlier productions he worked with co-producers and seasoned studio musicians, giving his songs a noticeable depth of production.
