„Layers of Afternoon” is intended to reflect a certain experience of time – something tangible and at the same time indeterminate that can be felt but not easily described. These moments often emerge in patterns, sometimes short, sometimes long-lasting, but always formative.
We recognize their uniqueness, and yet something unconscious within us longs to recognize and indulge in these patterns. We may avoid talking about them for fear of sounding trite or inconsequential, but they often return to our memories and offer us collective comfort. For Keith Kenniff aka Goldmund, language can barely convey these experiences; only art and music seem to come closest to capturing what makes them special.
Kenniff explains, „My goal for the music in „Layers of Afternoon” was to find that in-between space and write from there, hoping to convey my experience to the world as ideal – free of goals, musical training or emotional complexity. I wanted to seek out that space and let the moments float freely in the act of creation.”
In collaboration with violinist Scott Moore, Kenniff creates a soundscape that moves between nostalgia and the fleeting present, allowing the listener to drift through the hazy edges of memory.
