The Grammy-winning Gipsy Kings and their frontman and founder Tonino Baliardo broke new ground in 1987 with their self-titled album. It was a time when there were almost no non-English language songs in the US and UK charts, especially music inspired and influenced by the diverse world music of the previous decades.
Subsequent albums such as „Mosaïque” and „Este Mundo” continued their success and led to 25 million albums sold, over 2 billion streams and sold-out concerts in prestigious concert halls around the world. They enriched their characteristic flamenco sound with Latin American influences, pop accessibility and a touch of reggae and jazz. Thanks to their cultural influence, they were featured on the soundtracks to „Toy Story 3”, „The Big Lebowski” and „Entourage”.
Even after all these years, Tonino Baliardo and the Gipsy Kings family are still shining bright. Almost forty years after their breakthrough, their story continues – with music that is as rousing and life-affirming as ever – and with the announcement that they will be releasing the new album „Historia”.
