Vancouver’s Gamelan Alligator Joy (formerly Gamelan Madu Sari) offers a program of recent works for Javanese gamelan by the ensemble’s composers. There’s a wide variety of styles and approaches, including gamelan and retuned piano and gamelan and spoken word (a ventriloquial puppet dialogue, and a poetic meditation on the natural world). Spirited, innovative contemporary world music.
