After impressing the U.K. touring with Lit in May, Electric River have finally released an album and it is one to be proud of. The Kent four-piece have been getting plenty of positive notices for ‘The Faith & Patience’, and after listening to it several times I’m afraid I’m going to have to join in with the general ass kissing.
From the off, with opener ‘Calling Out’, it’s impossible to listen to Chris Aldis’ guitar and not think of The Edge from U2. This could have made ER a bit dodgy because no one really wants another U2 (we’ve only just got rid of the last one) but as soon as vocalist Alex Mayland joins in, it’s another sound altogether. His rough, Punkish style takes the smooth backing music and kicks it about a bit, so you get more of a Kings Of Leon feel.
Electric River are a band whose music will fill you with energy; with cool guitars, angry vocals and some excellent melody throughout. With nods to Classic Rock, Indie and Punk, they’ve managed to pull together the best parts of all three to create something fresh and vibrant. Catch them while you can, because when the Muggles get hold of them, they’re gonna be big stars.
