It came as a considerable surprise to find listening to some inoffensive Alt. Rock, in the style of bands like BIFFY CLYRO or, to a lesser extent, MUMFORD AND SONS. These guys have been around since 2012 with one EP to their name. Now signed to Epictronic, „Lightward” is their debut full-length due out at the end of March.
BIFFY CLYRO and MUMFORD AND SONS have never really ticked all of my boxes, or any of my boxes to be more precise. However, this is not the case with this Italian quartet. EARTHIST have a lot more variation in their musical direction. Sure the majority of this album is relatively standard modern rock but there are moments where the band strays away from that.
All in all „Lightward” is a perfectly good album, there’s a positive, upbeat vibe to it, staying away from the tedious concept of „love lost” that crops up far too regularly in the mainstream. EARTHIST, one would hope, will go on to get some mainstream success with this record as it’s easily good enough. Let’s face it though, the music industry is so firmly embedded in America and is far more concerned with pumping out stuff that’s radio friendly, piss easy to write and shit, rather than EARTHIST, who are radio friendly and really quite good.
