„ZIRP!” is DIIV’s fifth studio album and showcases the New Yorkers as accessible as ever. Produced by hyperpop pioneer A. G. Cook (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek), the band ventures into new sonic territory: While DIIV’s signature shoegaze elements remain intact, frontman Zachary Cole Smith’s vocals now take center stage in the mix for the first time.
“ZIRP!”, named after the low-interest-rate policy that has led us into a world of failed startups and turned us all into “users,” builds upon the themes of its predecessor, “Frog In Boiling Water,” with a newfound lightness. Throughout their new album, DIIV focuses on their most powerful and memorable melodies to date; every new, self-contained hook and every casually interspersed catchy tune attests to a band that is more than ready to fully realize its potential in the mainstream.
