With their third studio album “Nachtländlein”, their love of folk songs takes Bube Dame König (2015 German Record Critics’ Award) deep into the treasure trove of traditional lullabies, treating their favourite tunes to original, new arrangements. Besides tender new versions of “Wer hat die schönsten Schäfchen“ and “Schlaf, Kindelein, süße“, the album also holds several unexpected surprises.
Such as “Am Himmel steht der Mond so fahl“: hurdy-gurdy, acoustic and electric guitars carry the track, which is a tune of Afroamerican origin and with harrowing lyrics by Leipzig lyricist Thomas Kolitsch. Bube Dame König’s take on “Königskinder“ – a popular Dutch folk song – surprises the listener with an airy groove and catchy pop chorus. “Mittsommertraum“ takes its melody from an English folk song to tell a dreamy Celtic folklore-style fairytale.
