Boyracer kingpin Stewart Anderson has hit a jackpot here, with 14 concise, genre-defining crashpop gems. Building on the critical acclaim of 2020’s fan favorite „On A Promise,” Anderson is again aided and abetted by the like-minded talents of Christina Riley (Artsick) and the melodic talents of Sarah Records / Slumberland-era member Matty Green (Tall Boy / Declining Winter). Stewart’s vocals are biting and pointed and harmonize perfectly with Christina’s. Ms. Riley, who handles lead guitar for most of the album, provides a new direction on a familiar path.
Matty’s presence ensures that the pop element shines through the characteristic shrill bursts of feedback. Thoughtful and haunting, „Assuaged” offers many high points. The momentary rush of „Tommy McNeil” is a paean to the delightful confusions of a first infatuation. „40 Hours” is the autobiographical memoir of Stewart’s disdain for working at a National Health Food Chain during op.”Covid”. „Spoils” champions art instead of financial rewards. While „Digital Friends” questions how many Facebook friends we really need.
