Take the soundtrack for classic british TV comedy/drama Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) as an example. It’s a collection of tense, harpsichord driven incidental pieces that work excellently accompanied by visuals. But as a standalone piece, a load of weird spooky little odes and random orchestral outbursts listened to in sequence just sound mental. Taking nothing away from Edwin Astley’s classy score (it is good) it just seems like an odd record to want to own, like picking up a Michael Kamen soundtrack or something.
Anyway, this is a pretty cool collection of plaintive instrumentals that will no doubt go down well with the Trunk/Finders Keepers crowd and anyone with a nostalgic taste for all things British and 1960s. For those of you that are unaware, Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased) was a mid 60s television programme about a couple of private detectives – with the twist being that one of them is dead.
