Here we have a gem from the Bandcamp depths, a common way for today’s labels to find and sign new promising acts. „Vacant” is the debut album of the one-man band Ashbringer, and with it, Ashbringer join the swelling ranks of folksy atmospheric black metal. The genre can feel oversaturated at times Ashbringer, though, do it right, bridging the worlds of landscape atmospheric black metal played by bands like Wolves In The Throne Room and the comparative playfulness of Falls Of Rauros.
Like our recent discovery of Downfall of Nur, also „Vacant” despite being only a debut album of a very young musician, shows a very mature and complete work, an hell of a debut album that will please everybody into atmospheric black metal, from the darkest moods, the folk themes, the epic choirs and the acoustics of „Bathorian” memory and the furious explosions of cascadian black metal.
