With „Out Of Scale”, the Zurich band Annie Taylor presents an album with a 90s-inspired indie rock sound that remains open to other influences. Known for their intense live shows at festivals such as the Reeperbahn Festival and SXSW, the band has now transferred this energy to a varied studio album that oscillates between grunge power, indie melodies and psychedelic moments.
The songs on „Out Of Scale” are deliberately different, but intertwine like chapters of a common story. Distorted guitars and powerful rhythms meet hypnotic, repetitive passages before suddenly quieter, almost fragile moments take over. In this dynamic, the band moves somewhere between the laconic indie attitude of Courtney Barnett and the modern, slightly playful energy of Wet Leg. Many of the songs were written during an unusually quiet summer in Zurich. Singer Gini Jungi was inspired by long, aimless nights, spontaneous encounters and moments of loneliness. This mixture of freedom and melancholy characterizes the lyrics: they tell of friendships, relationships and the euphoric feeling when someone shows you the beauty of the world – but also of doubts and the painful moment when it becomes clear that you can’t be the solution for someone else.
