After a short break, the guys from Torgau are back, the direction is clear, from now on it’s all forward. For the sake of simplicity and so as not to forget, their third release is also called ‘Forward’. THE COCKHEADS are rather sparing with their chords – it’s not art, it’s punk rock. Honest music without frills, fast beats and catchy melodies, three chords with a ‘double whammy’. Sound in the style of the early eighties, when NDW was still punk rock.
The lyrics are similar, simple and catchy. Core message, two or three sentences around it, that’s all there is and doesn’t need to be. 14 words are enough for the band for the song ‘DDR’. Core message: ‘gray and 20 years behind’, it was an economy of scarcity, there just wasn’t that much, not even words. Everyday topics with the language of everyday life. Whether Nazi and/or Bolshevik stress, love or power-hungry study punks, the subject matter is brought to the point and the core message is repeated until the last person understands it.
THE COCKHEADS‘ sound is simple, but that’s exactly what makes it dangerous, it sticks and won’t let go. You’ll still be bobbing to the beat hours after listening to it. Be especially warned of the title track, as listening to it can have the side effect of creating an earworm! Good music can be so simple. 7 track mini-album, single sided vinyl, pink, 180 gram MLP.
