Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B, rock, blues and soul into contemporary terms. On this album, Marc opted for more personal and individual interpretations. The slow-funk of „Anybody Out There”, written from the perspective of a homeless and the painful R&B of „Wounded Hearts” are steeped deeply in the New Orleans and bayou soul traditions and remind us of The Neville Brothers, who had perfected this kind of southern blend towards the late stage of their career. Even a roadsong like „I Miss You”, who catapults him over to Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, seems an easy achievement for Broussard. „Don’t Be Afraid To Call Me”, an ode to old friends, that got lost on the way, delivers one of the most haunting melodies you are likely to hear this year and it stands as a true testament to the outstanding qualities of this man.
