A follow-up to „Casket Dream Veneration” (2015), „The Fire Cult Beyond Eternity” is the new album from Portugal’s ONIRIK and yet another proof of the talent of G.Rex, the band’s sole member. ONIRIK are active since 2002 and along the years have explored black metal far and wide, conjugating in a very peculiar way its most dissonant, tranceinducing fringes with the genre’s typical coldness and Luciferian essence. Backed on drums by none other than Dirge Rep (GEHENNA, ENSLAVED, ORCUSTUS, THE KONSORTIUM), G.Rex returns to us after bathing in the abysmal waters of the world below man, bringing with him a new reflection on death, occult wisdoms and dark spirituality. Mixed and mastered by Semjaza Shade Gawecki of THY DARKENED SHADE, „The Fire Cult Beyond Eternity” is that reflection.
Awaken from their casket dreams, ONIRIK speak the words of the Fallen, lost in the incense smokes of magniloquent
guitars chaotically tangling around melancholic yet scorching and oppressive melodies. „This time the old ways flow
deep like liquified lava, ready to break the wounds of this earth and resurface in arsonists’ bliss,” G.Rex says. „With
Dirge Rep‘s thunder and skin relentlessly vibrating the heights of the lower caves and wishfully widening the crevices,
majestic fires are bound to tail even the highest towers in crude fashion. Thus I have travelled beyond the casket and
return only to illustrate the certain retribution.”
Complementary to the „A Cor do Fogo” album by NOITE, another G.Rex’s project released at the same time, „The
Fire Cult Beyond Eternity” is a more old-school, sinister and raw outcome than its predecessor, with G.Rex taking the
bass duty for the first time ever. „It was something rather unexpected but astoundingly rewarding,” he comments; „the
grave lines viciously deconstruct the guitar chords and wistful melodies, definitely one of the album’s highlights.”
ONIRIK are ready to swallow your souls and wrap them in an eternal embrace of brimstone and purging flames.
