Both bands’ sets were recorded at the Atlantic venue in Gainesville, Florida on June 27, 2010. This recording documents a humid Florida night near the beginning of a Coliseum and Burning Love cross-continental summer tour, expertly captured by the Atlantic / Sound Study recording team.
COLISEUM :
In the three years since their second album, No Salvation (their first and only for Relapse Records), the Louisville power trio have changed labels, producers, engineers, and replaced the frenetic breakneck speed of former drummer Chris Maggio with the emphatic rhythmic stomp of Carter Wilson – all in the service of producing the album they always dreamed of. That album is House With A Curse, their third full-length and first for Temporary Residence Ltd.
The trio play like a singular unit, commanding an agile, indestructible army of enormous riffs grounded by the head-nodding, foot-stomping rhythm section of Wilson and long-time bassist Mike Pascal. Guitarist/vocalist Ryan Patterson’s gravel-throated proclamations are more personal than ever, reflecting against himself and projecting to the outside world. In the past Coliseum had one mode: FAST and HEAVY. With House, the group shows off a surprisingly masterful sense of melody, harmony and dynamics within the kind of passionate, fist-pumping face-melters that would make both Queens of the Stone Age and Fugazi proud.
BURNING LOVE :
Burning Love was born in 2007 as a side project to our bands Cursed and Our Father. The idea was, despite our differences of age, generation and frame of reference, to channel our varied favorites (from Black Flag and Hot Snakes to Kyuss or Turbonegro) and make some loud and riff driven punk songs that were different enough from what either of our previous bands were playing to be a challenge to us.
Following the sudden death of Cursed in 2008, we took Burning Love to the front burner, touring extensively at home and overseas and releasing two EPs in the UK and North America before releasing our first LP Songs For Burning Lovers (Deranged Records) in 2010 in the middle of an ambitious 50 show North American tour with our friends in Coliseum. Thus far, we’ve also had the pleasure of touring and playing shows with bands like Fight Amp, Vicious Cycle, Doomriders, Municipal Waste, Saviors, Dropdead, Nails, Crass, Fucked Up, Omegas, High On Fire, Kylesa, Torche, Rot In Hell, The Horror, Kim Phuc, Eddy Current, Complications, Warcry, Nomos, and many more.
